Well, some cities like Hyderabad are suffering with traffic woes without a metro at all; it is in the making now though. However, it is good news for Kolkata people as Kolkata Metro introduced an automatic signalling system this Sunday to reduce congestion and to increase the frequency of trains.
This step will reduce the gap between two successive stations from six to five minutes. A metro spokesperson said that New Garia and Tollygunge stations would be deployed with this automation immediately and by April 15th; the system would be installed up to Dum Dum station.
Number of services was increased to 270 trains from 236 last month on weekdays. Flipping some records, Metro was spread over 3.4 Km covering five stations only when it was initiated in 1984. Kolkata metro now connects 23 stations covering a distance of 25 Km. So, people out there, you can now reach your destinations in lesser time than before!
