India’s Coal-To-Gas Dream Is Budding

Actually the technology which is being used to convert the coal into gas and oil is about four decade old. A new technology is in the research and development department of the government. “India is lagging behind in adopting new technologies related to coal gasification,” said Parthasarathi Deb, Senior Vice President (Gasification) of Reliance Industries Ltd.

Country’s first coal gasification plant was established by Jindal Steel and Power Ltd. State-run Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizer and Gas Authority of India Ltd. are working on the second technology. India is the fourth most coal rich nation in the world, who is having about 350 billion tons of coal.
