Australia’s Country Fried Chicken Comes To India

Country Chicken, Australian fast-food chain launched its first outlet in India in Coimbatore on Wednesday. 300 such outlets are planned across India by 2015. The company would invest nearly Rs 200 crore for expansion of Country Chicken (India) with 80% in tier II and III cities including franchisees as said by Mr Ramakrishna, CEO Country Chicken (India).

He also said that company is having tie-ups with poultry farms like Suguna in the South and Venky in the North. As the market for fast-food is growing day by day in India, company is expecting to bag a good market share in the coming years. Star Quick Service Restaurant (SQSR) (P) Ltd, the partner for Country Chicken in India, is going to provide the processed products to outlets.

The processing plant in Chennai will supply products to the Coimbatore outlet and other future outlets in the South. Mr Craig Baker, Spokesperson of Country Chicken Australia said a mix of vegetarian items are to be catered along with country fried chicken, pizzas and roast dishes. It will be interesting to see as to how the American fast food major KFC responds to this!
