Unable To Pay Salaries To 3 Lakh Employees, BSNL Looks For Rs. 15,000 Cr Loan

BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd) is planning to increase its value up to Rs 15,000 crore through long-term loans from banks. SBI Capital Markets has been appointed to arrange the loans to telecom PSU. BSNL is in huge debts, The PSU had registered a loss of over Rs 6,000 crore for the year 2010-11 and is finding it difficult to pay salaries to its 3 lakh employees and support 14 million subscribers.

Moreover, BSNL has also asked Department of Telecommunications for a grant of Rs 5,000 crore as an immediate relief. A lot of other plans and strategies have also been made to raise funds. Recently, company has proposed to surrender its broadband spectrum and receive a refund of Rs 8,500 crore for acquiring the airwaves in 2010.

However, the company had made a profit of Rs 4,230 crore in 2005 which combined gave a profit of Rs 574 crore by the 2009.
