It is 4G time in Kolkata now! Bharti AirTel has now finally started 4G services for the first time in India and Telecom minister, Mr Kapil Sibal is did the honors of the inauguration. However, this event was planned in March itself but was delayed due to some reasons.
Chinese telecom maker ZTE was given the responsibility to supply, plan and design the Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) with 4G network capability; it has the potential to provide 100 Mbps speed in the go and 1 Gbps at a stationary location. AirTel has given this job to Nokia Siemens for operating this network in the Maharashtra circle.
Various plans are available in Airtel’s 4G bucket. The basic plan starts from Rs. 999 and goes up to Rs. 1999. You can also read our article on detailed information about Airtel’s 4G services, plans and Tariffs.
AirTel has also won BWA rights in Punjab and Karnataka including Kolkata, Maharashtra for a sum of Rs.3, 314.36 Crore. Qualcomm, Tikona, Aircel and Augere were some of the other private companies which got some deal during the auction. Public sector firms like BSNL and MTNL were also allotted one slot of spectrum.
