Even though it has always be flagged that smoking is dangerous to your health, the consumption of cigarettes in India is still on the rise. The number of cigarette user had increased by 4.19 per cent. This information was provided by Jyotiraditya Scindia who is the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry.
Looking at the numbers, for the year 2009-2010 the total units sold on cigarettes is 1,11,860 million sticks compared to 1,16,166 millions sticks for the year 2011-2012. This might be good in the economic side of the company since cigarette market is definitely a good source of revenue for the country, but its effects to people is something that the government had to look into.
Every company that wishes to manufacture cigarettes in the country is required for industrial licensing, but there was not license given for manufacturers in tobacco starting 1999 due to health issues. The cigarette industry is really a good market that is why the government should look closely on this.
