New Tariff System Introduced by DERC

Delhi’s power regulator had decided to introduce a new system under which tariff will be charged according to electricity consumption in peak and off peak hours. This is definitely a good reform in part of the government agency in order to address previous problems with the current tariff system being followed.

Officials of the Delhi Regulatory Electricity Commission will introduce this system on a pilot basis. They will be looking at the system on its effect to people. With this, they also encourage people to limit their power consumption in peak hours. The new system is called the Time of Day (TOD) metering.

In order to decrease the demand of electricity, commercial users are also encouraged to lessen their electricity consumption during peak hours. This would minimize the load shedding in residential areas when the demand for electricity is up substantially. This new system is expected to reduce power purchase cost.
