For the past three years, the bank was only able to add around 1,000 branches. This is one of the reasons why they are intensifying their move of expanding their business by putting up their branches in different places. As of the end of June 2012, SBI has a network of 14,127 branches.

This number of way ahead compared to other banks in the public and private sector. The nearest to this number is 5,697 branches of the Punjab National Bank for the public sector. On the other hand, for the private sector, we have the ICICI Bank that has around 2,755 branches. Banking in India has become very much progressive due to these banks.
