8,000 acres for potato area of McCain by 2014

McDonalds is expecting to have better business for the next three to five years which is the reason why they are planning to open 250 new restaurants in the next three to five years in India. With this, its potato supplier will not be answering this call with plans to double the contract farming area to 8,000 acres in Gujarat.

The need for McDonalds alone will increase with the increase of their requirement from 30,000 to 50,000 tons in three years. This is because potato is among the key ingredients that are used in the company. This demand of potato by the Big Mac Company is helping the potato growers in the country since they contact farmers in Deesa and Kheda for their needs.

McCain started its processing plant in Mehsana in the year 2007 with an initial investment of Rs 100 crore. Today, the company continues to grow and today they have contracted about 1,200 farmers over 4,000 acres in Gujarat.
