Government Relaxes Procedures for Units in Forthcoming MFG Zones

In a bid to promote the National Manufacturing Policy (NMP), the government has given first priority to units in the proposed mega industrial district for environmental clearances.

On top of that, procedures for green approval have been relaxed a bit, allowing individual units within proposed National Manufacturing and Investment Zones (NMIZs) to be exempted from public hearings. This exemption is allowed once the individual units have been held for the entire zone, with a notification from the concerned state government.

These developments come in the wake of a delay in the implementation of the NMP, as the labor and the environment ministries had not yet issued the required notifications for liberalizing the rules.

The National Manufacturing Policy aims to boost the contribution of the manufacturing sector to the country’s Gross Domestic Product, from the current 16% to 25%.  The policy also plays a supporting role to the implementation of the USD 90 billion Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC).
