Tata To Launch An Airlines In India With Malaysia’s AirAsia

AirAsia, one of the biggest low cost airlines of Southeast Asia, plans to start up a new airline in India, after 49% of investments by overseas carriers have been allowed by the Indian Government.

The role of Tata Group in this collaboration would be merely of a financial investor and AirAsia will be running all the operations of the airline, said an official from the Tata group.

Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange was informed by the airline that Arun Bhatia of Telestra Tradeplace Pvt is the third partner of the joint venture.

Amit Bhatia, Bhatia’s son who is also Lakshmi Mittal’s son in law and Tony Fernandes who is AirAsia’s chief are the co-owners of the British Soccer team Queens Park Rangers.

Airasia Group is among one of the largest low cost carrier in Asia in terms of fleet size and number of passengers with Thai AirAsia, Indonesia AirAsia, Philippines’ AirAsia, and AirAsia Japan among its flying affiliates.
