“Indian railways need about Rs. 1 lakh crore for the safety provision for next five years,” says Dr. Anil Kakodkar, former Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, who is reviewing the plans made by the railway recommendation committee.

This committee has submitted their report today which was heading by Dr. E Shreedharan, former managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

This committee has also advised to establish Railway Safety Authority (RSA) as an independent body with new experts in order to enhance the infrastructure. They are also suggesting appointing new Commissioners of Railway Safety – which are now under the Civil Aviation Ministry – under the domain of RSA. May be the committee will appoint some experts for the new recommendation committee who will only work on the safety of passengers.
