The final plans for the development of the domestic electric vehicle and hybrid vehicle (xEV) are likely to be disclosed in April, after over a year spent in discussions. The agenda for the last discussions, between the government, industry players and academia, aims to look at the creation of infrastructure and incentive strategies for buyers.
According to a top government official, a meeting over the investment and research and development required, has already taken place. He further added that, after the last upcoming ministerial-level meeting in April, the final outline of the policy for the xEV will emerge.
In support of the project, the Ministry of Heavy Industries has set up a Board and a Minister-level Council. Big auto industry players like Mr Vikram Kirloskar (the vice chairman of Toyota Kirloskar Kirloskar and as Mr Anand Mahindra, are also playing a part in developing a broad framework for the project.
