The company said in an email that, “It’s a unanimous decision by the board of Etisalat to shut down their operations, as the licenses were canceled.” The company also included that, Supreme Court of India canceled 122 UAS licenses issued by Government of India in January 2008. Those licenses will be invalid from June 02, 2012.

Etisalat also said that, this decision was made in order to protect the stakeholders of the company and avoid acquiring further costs at this time of rapid change and continued uncertainty in Indian telecommunication market.

Etisalat has 1.67 million subscribers within 15 circles, which is costing about USD 820 million. On the other hand, Reliance Infratel has sought for Rs. 1200 crore from Etisalat as the rental for using their telecom towers.
