This fiscal year had bagged bad news to all the air passengers. First, flight cancellations due to the prevailing crisis at Kingfisher Airlines have caused a great inconvenience.

Now, a recent survey said that high inflation and network disruptions would keep airfares high in the current quarter. The ‘American Express Business Travel Monitor’ which tracks and analyses published airfares on a quarterly basis, also stated that the domestic airfare in India is likely to stay up in the first quarter of 2012.

The report also stated that overall fares in the country rose 4 % during the October-December period of 2011 as compared to the preceding quarter, while domestic fares rose by 18 % in last three months of 2011. However, the overall fares in Asia Pacific region grew only 2 %, fares within the region were up by 4 %.

Fares from India to Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) sector remained same during the October-December quarter. Though there has been a significant increase approximately, 9% year-on-year in fares compared to the region’s 3 %.
