BlackBerry has successfully set up its new server in Mumbai. A lot of controversies have taken place about this decision previously. However there is intense pressure from the government on BlackBerry Company, to provide a mechanism for lawful interception of its messenger services.

These servers have been thoroughly inspected by a team of officers appointed by the government and permission for direct linkage for lawful interception was expected to be issued shortly. This very procedure took a lot of time to be approved as the security agencies have raised a question and dis-approvement over its operations citing non availability of method to intercept its messenger service and enterprise mail.

Statistics of the Department of Telecom (DoT) state that there are already 5000 Enterprise Servers for BlackBerry Enterprise Services (BES). However the license issued clearly stated that as Airtel, Vodafone, RCom, The Tatas and including the Government based telecom services BSNL and MTNL are now offering BlackBerry services, it is the sole responsibility of these operators to make sure that the security agencies get access to all services they offer.
